Abstract

The number of labor force in West Papua in August 2023 was 592,802 people, an increase of 77,432 people compared to August 2022. Along with the increase in the number of labor force, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) fell by 1.32 percentage points to 67.24 percent.

The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in August 2023 was 5.38 percent, an increase of 0.01 percentage points compared to August 2022. The working population was 560,883 people, an increase of 73,178 people from August 2022. The employment sector that experienced the largest percentage increase was the Trade Sector Large and Retail, Car & Motorcycle Repair and Maintenance (1.31 percentage points). Meanwhile, the sector that experienced the largest decline was the Agricultural Sector (3.06 percentage points).

A total of 328,398 people (58.55 percent) worked in informal activities, a decrease of 1.73 percentage points compared to August 2022. The percentage of underemployed decreased by 4.49 percentage points, in line with a decrease in the percentage of part-time workers of 4.21 percentage points compared to August 2022.
