Manokwari,(1/9) – BPS-Statistics Papua Barat Province reported that in August 2025, the province experienced a deflation of 0.99 percent (m-to-m). “The Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased from 111.41 in July 2025 to 111.16 in August 2025,” explained Merry, Head of BPS Papua Barat. This figure contrasts with August 2024, which recorded a monthly inflation of 1.24 percent. On an annual basis (y-on-y), deflation stood at 0.87 percent, while the calendar year-to-date figure (y-to-d) showed a deflation of 0.44 percent.

Meanwhile, Papua Barat Daya Province recorded inflation across all measures in August 2025: 0.87 percent (m-to-m), 1.88 percent (y-on-y), and 1.72 percent (y-to-d).

The Food, Beverages, and Tobacco group was the largest contributor to the divergent trends in both provinces. In Papua Barat, this group posted a deflation of 2.04 percent, contributing -0.71 percent to the overall figure. Key commodities driving this deflation included tomatoes, skipjack tuna, and yellowfin tuna. Conversely, in Papua Barat Daya, this group recorded an inflation of 1.73 percent, contributing 0.71 percent, mainly driven by mackerel, yellowfin tuna, shallots, and water spinach.

BPS also reported the Farmers’ Exchange Rate (NTP) for August 2025. In Papua Barat, the NTP fell to 100.93, representing a decline of 1.22 percent compared to July 2025. This drop was attributed to a 1.11 percent decrease in the farmers’ output price index (It), alongside a 0.11 percent increase in the input price index (Ib). Additionally, the Agricultural Household Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) declined by 1.16 percent, from 107.89 in July 2025 to 106.64 in August 2025. In contrast, the NTP for Papua Barat Daya reached 101.16, a slight increase of 0.01 percent from the previous month. This improvement was due to a 0.77 percent rise in the farmers’ output price index, offset by an equivalent increase of 0.77 percent in the input price index. The IKRT in Papua Barat Daya rose by 0.78 percent, while the NTUP increased by 0.22 percent, from 107.49 in July 2025 to 107.72 in August 2025.
